The conference will feature five panels focusing on diverse aspects of cultural and environmental interaction through the lens of spice routes and maritime societies. Panel 1 will delve into the biodiversity of spices, examining their ethnobotanical roles and impact on innovation, emphasizing the need for sustainable practices. Panel 2 explores human creativity and expression in culture and art, stressing the harmony between tangible and intangible cultural aspects and the preservation of artistic heritage. Panel 3 addresses the geopolitical challenges in cultural heritage management, including the impacts of climate change, technology, and globalization on preserving heritage while ensuring access. Panel 4 focuses on maritime societies, highlighting the importance of coastal communities beyond fishing, addressing the impact of resource extraction on these communities and ecosystems, and proposing innovative solutions. Lastly, Panel 5 discusses global encounters and cultural exchanges facilitated by seafaring and trading, covering the history, socio-economic impacts, and archaeological evidence of these interactions. Each panel aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of their topics, from the conservation of natural resources and cultural expressions to addressing contemporary challenges in cultural heritage and maritime community sustainability.
